Local search engine optimization (local SEO) is just like (national) SEO. It is a process influencing the appearance of a website or a web page in a web search engine’s unpaid results (SERP- search engine results page). It is often referred to as “natural”, or “organic”, or “earned” results. On the other hand, the top-ranked on the search results page and more frequently a site appears in the search results, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine. These visitors are then converted into customers. Local SEO focuses on optimizing a business online however presence differs in that its web pages will be displayed by search engines when users enter local searches for their products or services. Bringing Ranking into local search involves a similar process to general SEO except for some specific elements to rank a business for local search.

For instance, local SEO is all about ‘optimizing’ your online consciousness to pull more business from relevant local searches. Most of these searches happen on Google, Yahoo, Bing and other search engines to have the best optimization in your local area. You can also use sites like Yelp, Angie’s List, LinkedIn, Local business directories, social media channels and others.

A boxed of Google Snack Pack appears on the first results page when the user makes a local online search through Google’s search engine. The Snack Pack box of Google displays the top 3 and the most relevant local business listings to the search enquiry.

According to research, 33% of clicks go directly to the local “snack pack” results of Google, and 40% go to the regular organic results.
